To the editor: Kudos to Culver Metropolis for selecting high quality of life over gastronomic comfort (“Has In-N-Out finally met its match? One California city is fighting drive-throughs,” July 26).

In 1982, town of San Luis Obispo passed an ordinance banning drive-through eating places to scale back air air pollution from idling automobiles, forestall site visitors congestion and promote a walkable, pedestrian-friendly neighborhood.

Metropolis planners sought to discourage car-centric designs and create pleasant areas the place individuals step out of their automobiles, go inside the companies and work together with one another. For the previous 40-plus years, this ordinance has achieved its targets with out an influence on native commerce whereas selling neighborhood concord.

    Ron Yukelson, San Luis Obispo

    ..

To the editor: Busy drive-through companies do trigger concern. The In-N-Out in Sherman Oaks could be very widespread and its drive-through lanes are usually backed out into the road. The automobiles block the Ventura Boulevard entrance and even one part of the parking zone. The automobiles sit there idling for pretty lengthy intervals of time. On the identical time, there are parking areas obtainable within the lot, and one might simply get out of the automobile and go inside to get their meals.

A easy resolution is to control when the drive-through may be open. I might recommend early morning and night hours relying on the enterprise and its location. This may apply to each institution with drive-through service.
