LANCON, France: Firefighters have been battling a number of wildfires fanned by robust winds in southern France on Thursday (Jul 2), because the nation grappled with parched circumstances following Europe’s latest heatwave.

Inside Minister Laurent Nunez mentioned three blazes, two of which broke out on the western fringe of the Mediterranean port metropolis of Marseille, had scorched a mixed space of 1,210ha.

The World Meteorological Group final week warned that the document temperatures that baked Western Europe for over every week in late June would worsen the chance of wildfires, given the outlook for sustained excessive temperatures, very low humidity and dry vegetation.

The largest wildfire was burning within the Aude administrative division space close to the border with Spain, with some 900ha burnt. Native authorities mentioned excessive winds have been making it tougher for the 800 firefighters to battle the hearth.

In the meantime, firefighters have been tamping down a small blaze in Rognac close to Marseille’s airport and had introduced below management one other close by hearth masking 260ha in Lancon-Provence. There have been no casualties, native officers mentioned.
