Letters to the Editor: Our sidewalks need fixing, but ideally not at the expense of the trees

To the editor: I agree with columnist Steve Lopez that our parks, homelessness, trash, blight and sidewalks are in nice want of consideration (“From the scene of South L.A.’s erupting sidewalks, 5 questions for Bass and Raman,” June 13). I despair that a lot cash that might’ve gone to repairing our sidewalks has as a substitute gone to payouts to residents who’ve injured themselves on them.

My concern is that the repairs to sidewalks will embrace the elimination of enormous previous timber, just like the one at 71st Road and eleventh Avenue, that present much-needed shade and beautiful atmosphere to neighborhoods. On my road, there’s a very massive tree that has upended a sidewalk. I’ve not reported it, as I concern the elimination of this magnificent tree that provides a lot to my road.

Skilled arborists know the right way to save the timber and restore the sidewalks. Is there a spot within the finances for dozens of arborists? Cash properly spent, for my part. Extra timber for L.A. will get my vote.
