To the editor: As a producer within the artistic area and a working lady myself, I attended “Working Woman” at La Jolla Playhouse with my household. We had a blast.
Theater critic Charles McNulty’s assessment missed essential context: The musical continues to be a piece in progress (“‘Working Girl,’ the musical, is a crude knockoff of ‘80s music and style (and the original movie),” Nov. 19). There was a talk-back following the efficiency offering perception into the manufacturing’s growth, however this wasn’t talked about within the assessment.
Past that, I discovered McNulty’s evaluation puzzling. Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer was diabolical as Katharine, hilarious and villainous without delay. Joanna “JoJo” Levesque introduced actual gumption to Tess, with stunning, sturdy vocals.
The choreography was considerate. Somewhat than acrobatic numbers, the forged danced their butts off, like working ladies.
Regardless, the forged and crew, largely ladies, placed on a present price celebrating. They deserved higher than a assessment that decreased their work to a “crude knockoff of ‘80s music and magnificence.”
