To the editor: Jonah Goldberg asks about Donald Trump being president once more, “Did you feel the vibe shift?”

I felt a temblor stronger than the Northridge earthquake of 1994. 4 years of unfettered “rule” by Trump will take many years to get better from, if we ever do.

In one other op-ed article about Thomas Paine’s concern with unchecked authority expressed within the 1776 pamphlet “Frequent Sense,” the weather described by author A.T. McWilliams appear to be current in our nation in the present day for the president to behave like a king — just like the right confluence of situations that led to our latest fires.

With unchecked authority, govt orders may and can overrule the rule of legislation. Trump has already ordered the discharge of greater than 1,500 Jan. 6 convicts, put enforcement of the TikTok ban on maintain and tried to override the Structure’s birthright citizenship provision.

To broaden on Goldberg’s conclusion a couple of ethical arc of the universe not bending in our path anymore, maybe People would favor an moral arc bending from coast to coast.

To the editor: Goldberg is definitely appropriate that there’s been an unlimited change evident in our politics by way of this election.

To the horror of half our residents, the opposite half made peace with misogyny, management of ladies’s our bodies, abuse of asylum seekers and an assault on the U.S. Capitol and the police making an attempt to guard it.

I can solely hope that those that supported Trump didn’t maintain these horrors pricey however merely regarded mentioned horrors because the “lesser of two evils.” It’s onerous to see how that math provides up.

    ..

To the editor: I really feel the necessity to nitpick one factoid in Goldberg’s in any other case glorious column on the “vibe shift” in U.S. politics.

He states Trump “received the favored vote by 1.5 factors.” Trump garnered 49.8% of all votes forged, that means 50.2% of People voted towards him.

Sure, he received the favored vote towards Harris by 1.5 share factors, however he misplaced the general common vote by a slim margin, profitable solely a plurality. (The small variety of third-party votes brings us to 100%.) Thus it’s barely irritating to listen to all of the MAGA speak of a “mandate.”

Going ahead, let’s keep in mind: Final November, extra People went to the polls and voted towards Trump than voted for him.
