To the editor: As we age, we be taught an increasing number of concerning the significance of social contact and interpersonal relationships, which make the getting old course of more healthy and extra pleasant. However as an alternative of corporations investing in that concept, we’re witnessing the glorification of and exorbitant sums of cash invested into synthetic intelligence and robotics, not all of which is able to result in discoveries that can profit mankind.

Sadly, driverless taxis and robots developed to displace employees and human contact could have severe social, psychological and financial penalties that needs to be addressed earlier than their widespread use (“Why is Uber deepening autonomous vehicle ties with Chinese firms?,” Oct. 28). By doing so, such new expertise must justify its significance to advertise the overall welfare and well being of our residents.
