The Philadelphia Eagles won’t be repeating as Tremendous Bowl champions, as head coach Nick Sirianni’s staff fell 23-19 to the San Francisco 49ers within the wild-card spherical Sunday. There is a ton of blame to unfold for this disappointing staff.
This is our rating in inverse order of the largest culprits for Philadelphia’s inexcusable loss.
5. S Reed Blankenship
The 49ers struggled to maneuver the ball Sunday, however they scored 23 factors due to a handful of explosive cross performs. Blankenship allowed 5 catches for 62 yards and a landing in protection and completed with a below-average 35.3 Professional Soccer Focus protection grade. He was immediately at fault for just a few of these catches.
On the primary play of the fourth quarter, Blankenship let Christian McCaffrey run proper previous him on a trick play for a 29-yard landing cross that gave the 49ers a 17-16 lead. Blankenship has been a weak hyperlink in Philadelphia’s secondary all season, and the 49ers uncovered him within the playoffs.
4. Line of defense
Nearly as good because the defensive position was within the run recreation (three yards per carry allowed), it did not put constant stress on QB Brock Purdy within the pocket. The cross rush, which carried the Eagles to a championship final season, delivered one sack and gave Purdy an above-average time of three.03 seconds to throw.
That is not ok to win within the playoffs, particularly for a staff that went out of its approach to bolster the cross rush by buying and selling for Jaelan Phillips on the deadline.
3. WR A.J. Brown
At what level is the juice not well worth the squeeze on Brown, who did not converse to the media after the loss? The star large receiver, after publicly calling out the passing offense and inflicting friction within the locker room a lot of the season, dropped a career-high two passes and completed with solely 25 yards on three catches.
