ON THE SOUTHEASTERN FRONT, Ukraine — Ukraine’s greatest underground hospital is an astonishing subterranean warren of timber and high-tech medical equipment. Over 4,300 sq. ft of operation rooms, an ICU, dormitories, nurses’ quarters and even a small health club, all some two tales underground.
Not removed from the southeastern entrance line, this extraordinary facility is a monument to Ukrainian ingenuity and resilience. We witness an ambulance arrive from the entrance with injured troopers. One of many males is visibly distraught. We take his commander to 1 aspect

I take my likelihood to ask if all this sacrifice appears value it, now that they could not be capable of rely on American help for for much longer.
“If we lose the help, we’ll combat with our naked fingers,” he says.
I ask what he makes of Putin’s discuss of peace. He laughs. Everybody right here laughs at that.
“Putin lies,” he tells me. “I’ve been preventing since 2014, and I do know the value of Putin’s wars.”

“He’s the American president. He was elected. He can’t be silly.”
I ask what he fabricated from the Oval Workplace assembly between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky two weeks in the past, which resulted in a widely reported shouting match. The commander is cautious along with his phrases.
“Possibly that is simply the way in which he operates,” he says. “And we don’t see the larger image.”
Nobody right here goes to overtly criticize Donald Trump. They need the battle to finish. And so they know solely he can actually assist them finish it. However they aren’t about to surrender what they’ve fought so arduous for.
