    SINGAPORE: The new US$100,000 (S$129,000) fee for H-1B visas doesn’t apply to the H-1B1 visas out there to Singapore residents, america Embassy in Singapore stated on Monday (Sep 29).

    US President Donald Trump’s administration announced the fee on Sep 19, and it kicked in on Sep 21.

    “The current presidential proclamation concerning H-1B visas doesn’t apply to the H-1B1 visa for Singaporean residents. There isn’t any change to the H-1B1 course of right now,” the embassy stated in a Fb submit.

    The H-1B visa permits for the non permanent employment of non-immigrant foreigners working in sectors that require extremely specialised expertise, equivalent to tech.  

    The H-1B1 visa is a particular variant of the H-1B visa for residents of Singapore and Chile. There are 5,400 such visas out there to Singaporeans every year.

    The visas permit for a one-year employment interval and may be prolonged as much as two instances in one-year increments. In line with the US State Division, those that apply for H-1B1 visas should reveal that they don’t intend to stay or work completely within the US.

    The H-1B programme presents 65,000 visas yearly to employers bringing in non permanent overseas staff in specialised fields, with one other 20,000 visas for staff with superior levels. H-1B visas are permitted for durations of three to 6 years.

    The announcement of the brand new charge prompted some large tech corporations to warn visa holders to remain within the US or rapidly return to the nation.

    Since taking workplace in January, Trump has kicked off a wide-ranging immigration crackdown that has included strikes to restrict some types of authorized immigration.

    The step to reshape the H-1B visa programme represents his administration’s most high-profile effort but to remodel non permanent employment visas.
