Letters to the Editor: Why isn’t Gov. Newsom stepping in as Sable Offshore resumes production?

To the editor: I’m shocked that Sable Offshore has restarted operation (“Offshore oil operation near Santa Barbara resumes production after 10 years,” Might 20).

We face a federal administration bent on disrespecting legislation, and now we now have been deserted by our state on this regard. The place are you, Gov. Gavin Newsom? Are you watching Sable Offshore defy state legislation? Are you watching as Sable goes towards quite a few California Coastal Fee cease-and-desist orders and begins operation of this pipeline?

We all know the pipeline is previous, corroded and unsafe. We all know it’s a rupture simply ready to occur. We all know the subsequent leak might be much more devastating than the one 10 years in the past.

We have now proven up in numbers to attempt to defend our seashores, our shoreline, our sea creatures, our tourism financial system. We have now made numerous noise. Newsom, how have you ever not heard us?

    Mary Byrd, Santa Barbara
