To the editor: A lot blame has been forged on the Los Angeles Hearth Division for abandoning the location of the Lachman fireplace earlier than it was absolutely extinguished, thereby permitting it to rekindle because the Palisades fireplace (“3 critical days, many ignored warnings: How the LAFD failed to prevent the Palisades inferno,” March 11). The LAFD doesn’t have sufficient sources to assign a fireplace crew to watch a scenario for every week. There’s a hole in sources.

What’s lacking is a skilled volunteer crew that may be assigned in shifts to watch 24/7 for a lot of days at a time. A crew could possibly be stationed for so long as wanted, very similar to the volunteers who serve in mountain lookouts.

A crew of ham radio operators could be supreme fireplace displays. Ham operators focus on emergency communications. They’ve specialised communications tools and coaching, and so they have already got established relationships with many regulation enforcement companies.

A brand new volunteer monitoring service may fill the hole in our fireplace administration arsenal.
