To the editor: I’m not Senate Minority Chief Chuck Schumer’s (D-N.Y.) constituent, however I’m a 73-year-old American lady horrified each day by what ICE is doing to our nation (“Senate is not ‘anywhere close’ to a funding deal as ICE fight intensifies,” Feb. 5).
Does Schumer assume creating new rules for present ICE workers will change their habits? How will a reputation tag or an unmasked face stop the gross civil rights infringements we see on daily basis? How will physique cameras worn by ICE workers alter the fractured ethical compass of the company, documented by the cameras of so many citizen journalists?
I ask Schumer and Home Minority Chief Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) to please rethink the stance they’re taking. Please work tougher to guard democracy by refusing to vote to fund ICE.
We don’t want child steps — we want huge, daring, brave refusals to fund ICE. I hope Schumer listens to constituents and People who want to abolish ICE. It is a second when phrases should not sufficient. Be daring. Have braveness. Be an genuine Democrat. Refuse the unreasonable funding payments proposed by the Republicans.
