    NEW DELHI: India has delayed plans to ship a commerce delegation to Washington this week, mainly due to uncertainty after the US Supreme Court struck down tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump, a supply in its commerce ministry mentioned on Sunday (Feb 22).

    One of many first concrete reactions amongst Asian nations to the choice, it follows Trump’s transfer on Saturday to levy a temporary tariff of 15 per cent, the utmost allowed by legislation, on US imports from all nations, following the courtroom’s rejection.

    “The choice to defer the go to was taken after discussions between officers of the 2 nations,” mentioned the supply, who sought anonymity because the matter is a delicate one. “No new date for the go to has been determined.”

    The delay got here primarily from the uncertainty over tariffs following Friday’s judgment, the supply added.

    The delegation had been set to depart on Sunday for talks to finalise an interim commerce deal, after each nations agreed on a framework for Washington to chop punitive tariffs of 25 per cent on some Indian exports linked to New Delhi’s Russian oil purchases.

    US tariffs on Indian items were set to be cut to 18 per cent, whereas India agreed to purchase US gadgets value US$500 billion over 5 years, starting from power provides to plane and components, valuable metals and know-how merchandise.
