To the editor: Congratulations to the Los Angeles Unified College District for its positive factors (“LAUSD test scores hit a new high, erasing pandemic lows with a second year of strong gains,” July 22). But you will need to acknowledge that the one-time federal cash was spent on costly labor-intensive packages (tutoring, summer time college, courses throughout winter and spring break, intervention academics and studying coaches) to handle the harms of the COVID-19 pandemic. Supt. Alberto Carvalho, per the article, insists that “the system in place ought to proceed to construct on the educational positive factors.” However with the cash all spent, how can it? Extra readability from the LAUSD on that time could be appreciated.
