GAZA: A Gaza-bound support boat reached Israel’s Ashdod port on Monday (Jun 9) after being intercepted by Israeli forces, stopping the dozen activists on board together with Swedish campaigner Greta Thunberg from reaching the blockaded Palestinian territory.

An AFP photographer stated that the Madleen, which organisers stated was intercepted in worldwide waters in a single day, reached the port north of Gaza at round 8.45 pm native time escorted by the Israeli navy.

The Madleen set sail from Italy on Jun 1 to lift consciousness of meals shortages within the Gaza Strip, which the United Nations has known as the “hungriest place on Earth”.

After greater than 20 months of warfare, triggered by Palestinian militant group Hamas’s Oct 7, 2023 assault on Israel, the UN has warned that Gaza’s total inhabitants is vulnerable to famine.

At round 4.02am on Monday, Israeli troops “forcibly intercepted” the vessel because it approached Gaza, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition stated.

“In the event you see this video, we’ve got been intercepted and kidnapped,” Thunberg stated in pre-recorded footage shared by the coalition.
