PARIS: The European Union will reply to US President Donald Trump’s newest tariffs announcement, French Overseas Minister Jean-Noel Barrot mentioned on Monday (Feb 10).

Barrot instructed TF1 tv that France and its European companions mustn’t hesitate to defend their pursuits within the face of the US tariff threats.

Trump mentioned on Sunday that he would introduce new 25 per cent tariffs on all metal and aluminium imports into the US, on prime of present metals duties, in one other main escalation of his commerce coverage overhaul.

Requested if France and the European Union will reply, Barrot mentioned: “After all … That is already what Donald Trump did in 2018, and we responded. We are going to once more reply.”

The European Fee will resolve on the sectors that will probably be affected by a response, he added.

“It (the Fee) is able to push the set off when the time has come. Now this time has come. It’s in no-one’s curiosity to start out a business warfare with the European Union,” he mentioned.
