    BRUSSELS: European Union lawmakers and member states reached a deal Wednesday (Dec 3) to ban all imports of Russian gas by autumn 2027, because the bloc seeks to choke off key funds feeding Moscow’s battle chest.

    The in a single day accord goals to interrupt a dependency the bloc has struggled to finish regardless of the invasion of Ukraine, and marks a compromise between EU capitals and the European Parliament, which needed the ban to hit sooner.

    “We have made it: Europe is popping off the faucet on Russian gasoline, without end,” EU Power Commissioner Dan Jorgensen wrote on X.

    “We have chosen power safety and independence for Europe. No extra blackmail. No extra market manipulation by Putin. We stand sturdy with Ukraine.”
