BEIJING: Chinese language President Xi Jinping vowed on Tuesday (Might 13) to deepen ties with Latin America and condemned “bullying” in a thinly veiled swipe at the US, as he addressed regional leaders in Beijing.

Leaders and officers from Latin America and the Caribbean have descended on the Chinese language capital for the China-CELAC (Neighborhood of Latin American and Caribbean States) Discussion board.

Beijing has stepped up financial and political cooperation with Latin American nations in recent times and has urged a united entrance towards US President Donald Trump’s recent maelstrom of tariffs.

Addressing leaders on Tuesday, Xi hailed China’s burgeoning ties with the area.

“Though China lies removed from the Latin American and Caribbean area, the 2 sides have a time-honoured historical past of pleasant exchanges,” Xi mentioned on the opening ceremony, likening the summit to a “nice, sturdy tree”.

“Solely by way of unity and cooperation can nations safeguard international peace and stability and promote worldwide growth and prosperity,” Xi mentioned, pledging US$9.2 billion in credit score in the direction of “growth” for the area. He additionally warned of “bloc confrontation”.
