KABUL: Blasts and gunfire have been heard in Kabul on Sunday (Mar 1), a Reuters journalist within the Afghan capital mentioned, as fighting between Afghanistan and Pakistan entered a fourth day.
Explosions echoed throughout components of town earlier than dawn, adopted by bursts of gunfire, the journalist mentioned.
It was not instantly clear what had been focused or whether or not there have been casualties.
Taliban administration spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid mentioned the sounds have been the results of Afghan forces focusing on Pakistani plane over the capital.
“Air defence assaults have been carried out in Kabul in opposition to Pakistani plane. Kabul residents shouldn’t be involved,” Mujahid mentioned.
Pakistan’s prime minister’s workplace, info ministry and army didn’t reply to requests for remark.
The violence follows air strikes inside Afghanistan this week that Pakistan mentioned focused militant infrastructure. Afghanistan described the strikes as a violation of sovereignty and introduced retaliatory operations alongside their shared border.
Either side have reported heavy losses, issuing differing casualty figures that Reuters has not been in a position to independently confirm.
The engagement is among the many neighbours’ most violent in years and raises concern of a broader battle alongside their 2,600km frontier.
