    Australian minister asks to speak with Singtel over Optus emergency call outage

    SINGAPORE: Australian Minister for Communications Anika Wells mentioned on Thursday (Sep 25) that she has requested to talk with Singtel in Australia subsequent week over its subsidiary Optus’ network outage.

    The outage has been linked with several deaths, with some prospects unable to succeed in emergency companies when wanted.

    Singtel Group CEO Yuen Kuan Moon apologised on Wednesday and mentioned the corporate is working with Optus to make sure a “thorough investigation”.

    Talking to ABC Information Breakfast on Thursday, Ms Wells mentioned the difficulty “stays a continuing look ahead to me”.

    “And while we have now to let the investigation play out and we have now to be thought-about in a authorities response to the outcomes of these investigation, assembly with Singtel, I believe, is a crucial step for us, and in addition for us to offer Australian taxpayers confidence in our Triple Zero system, significantly forward of the summer time catastrophe season,” she added.

    The newest incident comes lower than a yr after Optus was fined A$12 million (US$7.9 million) by regulators for failing to supply emergency name companies to hundreds throughout a nationwide outage in 2023.
