BETHLEHEM FEELS PAIN OF GAZA WAR
“As Bethlehem lights its Christmas tree, the deep anguish endured by our folks in Gaza doesn’t depart our hearts”, Bethlehem Mayor Maher Canawati advised reporters this week.
“The wound of Gaza is our wound, the folks of Gaza are our folks, and the sunshine of Christmas has no which means until it first touches the hearts of the bothered, and the oppressed throughout Palestine”.
In Bethlehem, Palestinians stated that they had been hopeful that Christmas and the brand new 12 months would carry peace after two years of what some described as agony and ache. They hoped that Saturday’s ceremony would carry some pleasure for these struggling in Gaza.
“We’re on the lookout for hope”, stated Diana Babush, a Palestinian in her 50s from Bethlehem.
“We’re wanting that, from this second, peace will prevail. We hope that we will have peace and prosperity”.
In distinction to the time earlier than the conflict in Gaza, there have been no fireworks following the lighting of the Christmas tree, a solemn nod to the uncertainty of the longer term.
