    Ailing Pope Francis apologises for Vatican absence

    ROME: Pope Francis, who has spent the final two nights in hospital, apologised for lacking a mass on the Vatican on Sunday (Feb 16), saying that he was nonetheless being handled for bronchitis and thanking his docs for taking care of him.

    Francis, 88, was admitted to a Rome hospital on Friday with a respiratory tract an infection. His docs have ordered him to relaxation and he was unable to ship his common Sunday prayer to pilgrims in St Peter’s Sq..

    “I’d have preferred to be amongst you however, as you understand, I’m right here on the Gemelli Hospital as a result of I nonetheless want some therapy for my bronchitis,” Francis mentioned in a brief written model of the prayer.

    His spokesman instructed reporters on the Vatican that Francis had slept nicely, eaten breakfast and browse some newspapers and that his therapy was persevering with on Sunday.

    The cardinal who led mass on Sunday within the absence of Francis opened the service with a message of assist.

    “Our first thought goes to Pope Francis. We pray for his well being, providing thanks for the imaginative and prescient and assist that he at all times offers us,” Cardinal Jose Tolentino de Mendonca mentioned throughout the mass in St Peter’s Basilica.
