SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic — A pilot and co-pilot from the US have died in a fiery airplane crash as they tried an emergency touchdown within the Dominican Republic, authorities stated.

The incident occurred Sunday close to the southern coastal city of La Romana, based on a press release by the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation, which recognized the pilot and co-pilot as U.S. residents. It wasn’t instantly recognized what brought on the crash. No passengers have been aboard.

MLB All-Star former catcher Yadier Molina stated on social media that the airplane was sure for Texas to choose him up, together with household and associates.

“My condolences to the pilots and their household!” he wrote. Molina and his group have been headed to Puerto Rico.

Officers stated the airplane had departed from Puerto Rico and landed within the Dominican Republic to refuel earlier than heading to Texas.

The pilot and co-pilot reported an emergency shortly after taking off from the Dominican Republic, authorities stated.
