To the editor: As a Los Angeles Instances subscriber for 40 of my 40 years in L.A., I used to be happy to see a well-written story in regards to the worth of music and humanities in colleges (“Singing in class can rewire young brains for reading, research shows,” Might 26). Sadly, there have been no references to the applications regionally which have been serving to youth expertise the unbelievable advantages of the humanities in colleges.

The passage of Proposition 28 evidenced vital public assist for the thought, though now the proposer, Austin Beutner, notes the funding isn’t all the time nicely used. Packages like Concord Challenge have been serving native communities for many years, even offering free devices to college students. LA Phil’s Youth Orchestra Los Angeles can also be a useful native asset.

Many others deserve recognition, and I hope The Instances continues protection of this important useful resource for schoolchildren.

    Marc Haupert, Burbank
This author is a guide to nonprofit arts organizations, together with Concord Challenge.
