To the editor: I share employees author Hailey Branson-Potts’ disappointment and outrage (“This burnt-out 3-bedroom in Torrance sold for over $1 million. Welcome to California’s housing market,” Could 19). When my dad and mom got here to West L.A. in 1967, they had been in a position to purchase a three-bedroom home for $35,000. Ten years later, they bought it for $350,000. Right now, little doubt it might promote for near $2 million or $3 million.
I would like my son to settle in L.A. and realistically, he won’t be able to afford Torrance. However there are various, many nice neighborhoods in outlying areas which are nonetheless comparatively inexpensive. I name it the Manhattanization of Los Angeles. A neighborhood 50 years in the past that nobody would’ve dreamed of dwelling in New York Metropolis is now very groovy. Ditto with Los Angeles County. Take into consideration becoming a member of me right here in South L.A.!
