Prosecutors might pursue the demise penalty in the retrial of Alex Murdaugh, in accordance with the South Carolina lawyer normal.

Murdaugh maintains his innocence.

Murdaugh’s spouse, Margaret “Maggie” Murdaugh, and his youthful son, 22-year-old Paul Murdaugh, had been shot and killed near the dog kennels on the household’s property in 2021.
On the homicide trial, prosecutors argued Alex Murdaugh, who comes from a legacy of outstanding attorneys within the Lowcountry area of South Carolina, killed his spouse and son to realize sympathy and distract from his monetary wrongdoings.
He was convicted of the murders in 2023.
Regardless of the now-overturned homicide convictions, Alex Murdaugh will stay in jail to serve time for his convictions on monetary crimes. He is serving a 27-year sentence on state fees and a 40-year sentence on federal fees.
