    BEIJING: China reiterated its robust opposition to US arms gross sales to Taiwan on Wednesday (Could 13), calling on Washington to honour its commitments forward of US President Donald Trump’s arrival for a summit in Beijing.

    The difficulty of democratically ruled Taiwan, which China views as its personal territory, and weapons gross sales to Taipei, is definite to be mentioned throughout two days of meetings this week between Trump and Chinese language President Xi Jinping.

    The US is certain by regulation to offer Taiwan with the means to defend itself, regardless of a scarcity of formal diplomatic ties. In December, the Trump administration introduced an US$11 billion weapons package deal for Taiwan, the most important ever.

    The US formally takes no place on Taiwan’s sovereignty beneath Washington’s “One China” coverage, however acknowledges, with out accepting, Beijing’s place that the island is China’s.
