VATICAN CITY: Pope Leo on Wednesday (Apr 8) praised the two-week ceasefire in the Iran war, hours after calling United States President Donald Trump’s risk in opposition to the inhabitants of Iran “unacceptable”.

The pope, who has emerged as an outspoken critic of the conflict in latest weeks, mentioned he welcomed the announcement of the ceasefire with satisfaction and urged continued negotiation to deliver a full finish to the regional battle.

“In mild of those previous hours of nice rigidity for the Center East and for the entire world, I welcome with satisfaction … the announcement of an instantaneous two-week truce,” Pope Leo, the primary US pope, mentioned in his weekly viewers.

“Solely by way of a return to negotiation can an finish to the conflict be achieved,” he mentioned.

Pope Leo, who is thought for selecting his phrases rigorously, has been ramping up his criticism of the US-Israeli conflict in opposition to Iran.

After Trump threatened Iran on Tuesday that “an entire civilisation will die tonight” if the nation didn’t meet US calls for for a truce, Pope Leo advised journalists that the risk was “really unacceptable”.

It’s uncommon for the pope, who leads 1.4 billion Catholics world wide, to reply on to a world chief.
