To the editor: Thanks for the outline of our Passover vacation by Peter Smith (“In the Passover ritual, Jews worldwide reenact an ancient story of liberation,” March 30). It was so proper and inclusive for me, a Jew residing in a time when it’s questionable whether or not it’s secure to put on my Jewish Star of David out in public. My reply is that I do, it doesn’t matter what, and accomplish that proudly.

The op-ed piece by visitor contributor Daniela Gerson was very relatable to me as properly (“At Passover, I think of families like mine, forced to wander,” March 31). My Polish father and uncle additionally fled east from the Nazis and ended up in Siberia. My father and mom met and married there. They had been additionally wanderers as Gerson describes and later, in Germany, had been labeled displaced individuals.

That the Passover story continues to be advised to generations of Jewish youngsters and that we Jews, even in latest historical past, proceed to wander explains why we, as a folks, so typically voice our help for all refugees and asylum seekers. We perceive and empathize with the seek for freedom and a peaceable life.
