KABUL: The World Meals Programme (WFP) mentioned on Sunday (Mar 15) that it has began delivering “life-saving meals” to over 20,000 Afghan households displaced by the conflict with Pakistan, warning “additional instability will push hundreds of thousands into starvation”.

Households who fled their properties will initially obtain fortified biscuits to deal with “pressing” starvation, with the ready-to-eat rations meant to assist individuals compelled to flee and with restricted entry to cooking services.

Within the coming weeks, essentially the most weak households will obtain further help, together with two months’ price of meals or money assist, the UN company mentioned.

Months of cross-border clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan have flared once more since Feb 26.

Islamabad accuses Afghanistan of failing to behave in opposition to militant teams that perform assaults in Pakistan, which the Taliban authorities rejects.

The UN mentioned on Friday that no less than 75 civilians have been killed and 193 injured in Afghanistan on account of the clashes.

“Regardless of the damaging situations within the space, WFP has resumed operations in most border areas,” it mentioned in a press release.

“Afghanistan is caught between two conflicts, and any additional instability will push hundreds of thousands deeper into starvation whereas including pressure to a area already on the brink,” pressured John Aylieff, WFP nation director in Afghanistan.
