    To the editor: Thanks for shedding some mild on the copper wire theft drawback (“L.A. streetlights take a year to fix. Council members say solar power is the answer,” Feb. 14). Nearly 4 years in the past, staff from the Bureau of Avenue Lighting (the women and men who had the large activity of performing repairs) got here to the Metropolis of Los Angeles Innovation and Efficiency Fee searching for a grant of innovation funds to pilot photo voltaic lights. The pilot program was an enormous success, a lot in order that we awarded these metropolis staffers with our Innovation of the Yr award and, extra importantly, satisfied the Metropolis Council to allocate cash for lots of of photo voltaic lights, which are actually being put in throughout L.A.

    To the editor: In 2007, the Presidents Row Neighborhood Assn. in Venice used a grant from the council workplace to put in the primary photo voltaic streetlight in a residential neighborhood within the metropolis of Los Angeles. It was supposed as a pilot program to see whether or not it may very well be expanded to different areas.
