    WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump, shifting his tone once more, warned Britain on Wednesday (Feb 18) to not “give away” a key Indian Ocean base, saying it could be very important if the US assaults Iran.

    Trump, who is considering strikes on Iran’s clerical state, spoke hours after the State Division once more provided US assist to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s deal to return the Chagos Islands to Mauritius.

    Underneath the settlement, Britain would as an alternative pay to lease the strategic joint US-UK base at Diego Garcia for a century.

    “Prime Minister Starmer shouldn’t lose management, for any cause, of Diego Garcia, by getting into a tenuous, at greatest, 100 Yr Lease,” Trump wrote on his Reality Social platform.

    “This land shouldn’t be taken away from the UK and, whether it is allowed to be, will probably be a blight on our Nice Ally,” he wrote.

    “We are going to at all times be prepared, prepared, and capable of combat for the UK, however they’ve to stay sturdy within the face of Wokeism, and different issues put earlier than them. DO NOT GIVE AWAY DIEGO GARCIA!”

    Trump’s envoys on Tuesday held new negotiations with Iran, demanding that the clerical authorities – which final month killed 1000’s of individuals in a crackdown on mass demonstrations – conform to main concessions on considerations beginning with its nuclear programme.
