    Two high-speed trains derail in Spain, broadcaster reports 7 people killed

    MADRID: Two high-speed trains derailed on Sunday (Jan 18) in southern Spain, the rail community operator mentioned, and state-run tv channel RTVE mentioned seven folks had died, citing police sources.

    The accident occurred close to Adamuz, in Cordoba province. Seven folks have been confirmed lifeless by police, RTVE mentioned, including that 100 folks have been injured, 25 critically.

    Spanish police didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark from Reuters.

    “The Iryo 6189 Malaga – (to Madrid) prepare has derailed from the observe at Adamuz, crashing onto the adjoining observe. The (Madrid) to Huelva prepare which was travelling on the adjoining observe has additionally derailed,” mentioned Adif, which runs the rail community, in a social media publish.

    Adif mentioned the accident occurred at 6.40pm (1.40am, Singapore time), about ten minutes after the Iryo prepare left Cordoba heading in the direction of Madrid.

    Iryo is a personal rail operator, majority-owned by Italian state-controlled railway group Ferrovie dello Stato. The prepare concerned was a Freccia 1000 prepare which was travelling between Malaga and Madrid, a spokesperson for Ferrovie dello Stato mentioned.

    Iryo didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark.

    Adif has suspended all rail companies between Madrid and Andalusia.

    Andalusia emergency companies mentioned on social media that every one rail site visitors had been halted and emergency companies had been on their manner, together with no less than 9 ambulances and emergency help automobiles.
