CAIRO: The Palestinian committee set to govern Gaza under US supervision met for the primary time Friday (Jan 16) in Cairo, as its chief pledged to get to work rapidly to enhance circumstances there.

Ali Shaath, an engineer and former Palestinian Authority official from Gaza, expects reconstruction and restoration to take about three years. He plans to focus first on quick wants, together with shelter.

“The Palestinian individuals have been trying ahead to this committee, its institution and its work to rescue them,” Shaath stated after the assembly, in a tv interview with Egypt’s state-owned Al-Qahera Information.

US President Donald Trump helps the group’s efforts to guide Gaza after the two-year struggle between Israel and Hamas. Israeli troops withdrew from elements of Gaza after the ceasefire took impact on Oct 10, and at the moment are behind the so-called Yellow Line, whereas hundreds of displaced Palestinians have returned to what’s left of their properties.

“I’m backing a newly appointed Palestinian Technocratic Committee, the Nationwide Committee for the Administration of Gaza, supported by the Board’s Excessive Consultant, to manipulate Gaza throughout its transition,” Trump stated Thursday in a social media submit.

The committee will run day-to-day affairs in Gaza, underneath the oversight of a Trump-led “Board of Peace,” whose members haven’t but been named.
