To the editor: There’s nothing romantic about coyotes, or different wild animals, copulating in residential areas (“Expect to see more coyotes in your neighborhood. Here’s why,” Jan. 8). The perspective of studying to stay with them is improper and comes from misplaced empathy (as does feeding wild animals, together with squirrels, which in the end feeds coyotes).
Till 16 months in the past, there have been no coyotes in my neighborhood within the Flats. Folks would hike with their canines off leash in Griffith Park with no coyotes in sight. Coyotes have been afraid of people and hid. Instantly, they’ve seemingly misplaced their concern, possibly as a result of individuals are feeding them.
The county must have a program to scare them off so they don’t seem to be in residential neighborhoods and so they return to how they existed for many years.
