    Costa Rica’s security director says plot to assassinate president uncovered

    SAN JOSÉ: Costa Rica’s nationwide safety chief on Tuesday (Jan 13) revealed particulars of an alleged plot to assassinate President Rodrigo Chaves forward of presidential and legislative elections.

    Jorge Torres, director of the Intelligence and Nationwide Safety Directorate, advised journalists concerning the plot allegations as he ready to file a proper criticism on the public prosecutor’s workplace.

    “What we obtained is confidential data that I wish to placed on file within the criticism. I don’t need to go into element, however I’d merely wish to inform you that it issues the lifetime of the president of the Republic,” Torres advised native media.

    Torres stated a name was obtained from a lady who reported a supposed plot in opposition to Chaves, including a fee had been made to a hitman. Torres additionally reported that safety was being strengthened for the conservative populist chief, who has sought to current himself as a politician who’s tough-on-crime.

    Torres spoke as El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele, who has gained fame for his controversial safety crackdown, was scheduled to go to the nation.

    On Wednesday, Chaves is scheduled to put the cornerstone of a brand new “ mega-prison ” that Costa Rica plans to construct, modelled on a facility constructed by Bukele.

    Costa Rica will maintain presidential and legislative elections on Feb 1. Whereas Chaves is ineligible to run for re-election, the ruling occasion’s Laura Fernández is among the many presidential candidates.
