    SINGAPORE: Singapore and america have began the brand new 12 months by reaffirming their partnership, with 2026 marking the sixtieth anniversary of diplomatic ties between the nations.

    Prime Minister Lawrence Wong had a phone name with US President Donald Trump on Friday (Jan 2), stated the Singapore Ministry of International Affairs (MFA).

    “PM Wong and President Trump famous that 2026 marks the sixtieth anniversary of diplomatic ties between Singapore and america,” the ministry stated in a press assertion. 

    “They reaffirmed the enduring power of the mutually useful partnership that spans a number of domains, and appeared ahead to deepening cooperation in established areas and increasing into new ones.” 

    MFA added that Mr Wong thanked Mr Trump for inviting Singapore to the upcoming Group of 20 (G20) Summit that might be held in Miami, Florida, in December.

    “Singapore appears ahead to contributing to the US’ G20 agenda, and advancing financial progress for all,” it stated.

    Mr Wong stated in a Fb publish that Singapore will play a “constructive position” on the summit and contribute to the shared agenda for progress and stability.

    “I stay up for visiting america later this 12 months to mark this essential milestone in our bilateral ties, and to deepen cooperation in new areas comparable to synthetic intelligence, cybersecurity and civilian nuclear energy.”

    He additionally stated he thanked the US president for his management in advancing peace efforts globally, together with in serving to to safe the recent ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia.
