    Saudi-led coalition says targeted arms shipments from UAE in Yemen

    RIYADH: A Saudi-led coalition focused a big amount of weapons and fight autos that had been being offloaded in Yemen from ships coming from the UAE, the Saudi information company reported on Tuesday (Dec 30).

    The coalition had warned it could again Yemen’s authorities in any army confrontation with separatist forces and has urged them to withdraw “peacefully” from recently-seized provinces.

    In latest weeks the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), which seeks to revive the previously unbiased state of South Yemen, has swept by swathes of the nation, expelling different authorities forces and their allies.

    These advances have put strain on ties between Saudi Arabia and the UAE, which assist rival teams inside Yemen’s authorities.

    “The crews of the 2 ships disabled their monitoring techniques and unloaded a big amount of weapons and fight autos to assist the Southern Transitional Council forces,” Saudi state information company SPA reported.

    “Given the hazard and escalation posed by these weapons … the Coalition air forces carried out a restricted army operation this morning focusing on weapons and fight autos that had been unloaded from the 2 ships on the port of al-Mukalla.”

    The ships arrived from the port of Fujairah, on the east coast of the United Arab Emirates, SPA stated, including that the operation was performed in accordance with worldwide humanitarian regulation and that no collateral harm occurred.
