    Turkish authorities say arrested suspected IS member was planning New Year’s attacks

    ISTANBUL — Turkish authorities stated Friday that they’ve apprehended a suspected member of the extremist Islamic State group who was planning assaults on New Yr’s celebrations.

    State-run Anadolu Company reported that Ibrahim Burtakucin was captured in a joint operation carried out by police and the Nationwide Intelligence Company within the southeastern metropolis of Malatya.

    Safety officers informed Anadolu that Burtakucin was involved with many IS sympathizers in Turkey and overseas and was additionally searching for a possibility to affix the continued combating in battle zones.

    Authorities additionally seized digital supplies and banned publications belonging to IS in the course of the raid of his house.

    The arrest was reported a day after Istanbul’s prosecutor’s workplace stated Turkish authorities carried out simultaneous raids during which they detained over 100 suspected members of the militant Islamic State group who had been allegedly planning assaults in opposition to Christmas and New Yr’s celebrations.
