MAIDUGURI: At the least 13 onion farmers have been kidnapped within the restive northeastern Nigeria, the newest bout of abductions rocking the nation, a neighborhood authorities official stated Saturday (Dec 6).

Nigeria has been wracked by a wave of kidnappings in current weeks, together with the capture of over 300 school children two weeks in the past that shook Africa’s violence-weary most populous nation.

The spike in abductions noticed President Bola Tinubu declare a safety emergency – permitting for the recruitment of tens of hundreds extra police and navy personnel.

Round midnight (2300 GMT) “unknown gunmen stormed Malari village … and kidnapped fourteen onion farmers”, Konduga native authorities chairman, Abba Abbari advised AFP, including one of many victims later escaped.

The farmers had stayed in a single day within the fields to water crops and watch over cattle after they have been seized.
