To the editor: Schools are manner too costly; I don’t suppose anybody disputes that. There are many causes for this, not the least of which is the best way schools make the most of pupil loans. Primarily, they’ll write in any quantity for what they need for tuition — college students will at all times have the ability to get loans. So schools fortunately improve prices.
However the UC tuition hike proposal actually obtained me (“Students oppose UC tuition hikes. Leaders say campuses need money in the Trump era,” Nov. 18). Why the heck is among the tuition improve going to monetary assist? UC goes to cost extra in tuition for … cash that goes towards tuition? That’s artificially growing the price of faculty.
As a substitute of funding monetary assist that manner, why doesn’t UC simply, properly, decrease tuition for everybody? If prices are decrease, you don’t want as a lot monetary assist.
