SINGAPORE: Singaporean Amos Yee was on Thursday (Nov 20) launched from a United States jail on parole.
Yee, now 27, was serving time at Danville Correctional Middle in Illinois after being sentenced in 2021 to six years’ jail by a US court for possessing baby pornography and grooming.
In line with a sufferer’s data community, Yee had been launched on Nov 7 and instantly taken again into custody.
He was then launched once more on Nov 20 at about 7.15am (9.15pm Singapore time).
Yee has been registered as a intercourse offender, based on checks on the Illinois State Police’s offender registry.
This isn’t the primary time he has been launched on parole.
In October 2023, Yee was granted parole midway via his six-year sentence. However he was taken back into custody a few month later for violating parole situations.
Yee was sentenced on Dec 3, 2021, after pleading responsible to grooming a 14-year-old lady on-line and asking her for bare photos of herself.
One other 16 fees have been dismissed as a part of a plea deal that Yee agreed to, and his jail time period was backdated to his arrest in October 2020.
The courtroom heard beforehand that Yee, then 20, had befriended the sufferer in February 2019.
They started an “on-line courtship”, throughout which he repeatedly requested for her bare photographs.
On events, he requested her to have interaction in roleplay and “sexual fantasies”, stated the prosecution. This was regardless of the sufferer telling him that she was 14 years previous, and it went on till July 2019.
The courtroom heard that he had used WhatsApp to “seduce, solicit and lure” the sufferer, then distributed pictures of her on-line.
Yee was arrested by US marshals at his house in Chicago’s Norwood Park East neighbourhood.
It has been greater than eight years since Yee was granted asylum by a US immigration courtroom, regardless of opposition from the Division of Homeland Safety.
In 2015, Yee was jailed in Singapore for wounding spiritual emotions by making remarks about Christians.
A few 12 months later, Yee was jailed once more and fined on the same cost, this time for making remarks about Christians and Muslims.
