To the editor: The article on declines this season in Main League Soccer viewership was attention-grabbing, if not somewhat shocking (“Why the 2026 World Cup may not help American soccer leagues surge in popularity,” Nov. 4). I had thought MLS recognition has been rising steadily. As a soccer fan (as in, actual soccer, performed with the ft), leisure participant and longtime youth coach, I’ve discovered the standard of play vastly improved and even entertaining to observe nowadays.
Nonetheless, even I’ve watched far fewer video games the previous two seasons. Why? As a result of they’re being aired on Apple TV, a paid streaming service.
At this significant juncture within the historical past of MLS, it’s a large mistake to not broadcast video games on community, or “free,” tv, the place anybody can merely tune in and watch a sport. I personally discovered it very irritating when video games went to Apple TV. Massive mistake.
