    ANKARA: British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated London has signed an agreement to sell Eurofighter jets to NATO member Türkiye in a 10-year deal price practically US$11 billion after talks Monday (Oct 27) with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

    “This can be a actually important deal, as a result of it is £8 billion (US$10.7 billion) price of orders… These are jobs that can final for 10 years, making the (Eurofighter) Typhoons, so actually huge for our nation,” Starmer stated.

    Britain’s defence ministry described the order, which might contain 20 Eurofighters, because the “greatest fighter jet deal in a era”, saying it could strengthen Türkiye’s fight capabilities and bolster “NATO’s power in a key area”.

    “The UK will present Türkiye with 20 new Eurofighter Hurricane plane, with the choice to offer extra sooner or later,” Starmer stated after signing the settlement.

    The deal would “bolster safety throughout NATO, deepen our bilateral defence cooperation, and enhance financial progress right here and in the UK, securing 20,000 British jobs, constructing these state-of-the-art fighter jets”, he stated.

    Erdogan hailed the settlement as “a brand new image of the strategic relations” with Britain.

    He thanked the opposite members of the Eurofighter consortium for his or her “constructive method”.

    British defence minister John Healey, who travelled to Ankara with Starmer, stated the deal “goes far past” plane.
