    COPENHAGEN: The USA’ prime diplomat in Denmark has reaffirmed Greenland’s proper to find out its personal future, following Danish intelligence reviews alleging that non-public US residents tried to sway political sentiment within the Arctic territory.

    Chargé d’Affaires Mark Stroh met with Danish and Greenlandic officers in Copenhagen on Wednesday (Aug 27). Denmark summoned him in response to a report by public broadcaster DR, saying at the least three Individuals with ties to President Donald Trump had been suspected of selling opposition to Danish rule in an effort to encourage Greenland’s secession.

    The US State Division stated in an emailed assertion late on Wednesday that Stroh had a “productive dialog” and reiterated Washington’s dedication to sturdy ties with each Denmark and Greenland.

    “The USA respects the proper of the individuals of Greenland to find out their very own future,” the State Division stated.

    It added that the US authorities doesn’t management or direct the actions of personal residents and declined to touch upon intelligence issues.

    Greenland, a semi-autonomous territory inside the Kingdom of Denmark, holds the proper to declare independence.

    Trump has repeatedly expressed curiosity in buying Greenland for strategic causes and has not dominated out using power to realize that aim.

    Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen commented to DR: “We’re a associate, we’re an ally, and we count on that the diplomatic guidelines of the sport will apply. We count on that worldwide legislation and sovereignty shall be revered.”
