    US to probe Smithsonian museums to remove ‘partisan narratives’

    WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump’s administration stated on Tuesday (Aug 12) it had ordered a sweeping overview of some Smithsonian museums to make sure their exhibitions laud American exceptionalism and “take away divisive or partisan narratives”.

    Trump has moved to say management over main American cultural establishments since beginning his second time period in January, whereas additionally slashing arts and humanities funding.

    The Smithsonian is one among America’s most hallowed establishments, with its huge community of museums boasting tens of hundreds of thousands of artefacts for public show.

    A letter to the establishment’s secretary Lonnie Bunch, printed on the White Home web site on Tuesday, stated the administration would perform a “complete inside overview of chosen Smithsonian museums and exhibitions”.

    “This initiative goals to make sure alignment with the President’s directive to have a good time American exceptionalism, take away divisive or partisan narratives, and restore confidence in our shared cultural establishments,” stated the letter, signed by three senior White Home officers.

    It can goal eight main museums, together with the Nationwide Museum of American Historical past, the Nationwide Museum of African American Historical past and Tradition, and the Nationwide Museum of the American Indian, the letter stated.

    The overview goals to evaluate “tone, historic framing, and alignment with American beliefs” throughout exhibitions, instructional supplies and digital content material forward of the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding subsequent yr.
