    British overseas secretary pledges help for Syria’s new authorities after talks with interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa.

    The UK has introduced it’s formally restoring diplomatic ties with Syria as British International Secretary David Lammy travelled to the capital Damascus to satisfy with interim Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa.

    Al-Sharaa obtained Lammy on Saturday alongside Syrian International Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, in line with pictures of the assembly launched by the presidency.

    “After over a decade of battle, there’s renewed hope for the Syrian folks,” Lammy stated in a statement launched by his workplace, noting that the go to was the primary by a British minister to Syria in 14 years.

    “The UK is re-establishing diplomatic relations as a result of it’s in our pursuits to help the brand new authorities to ship their dedication to construct a secure, safer and affluent future for all Syrians,” he stated.

    Syria has been enhancing relations with Western nations after longtime President Bashar al-Assad was removed from power in December 2024 in an offensive led by al-Sharaa’s Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) armed group.

    In April, the British authorities lifted sanctions towards a dozen Syrian entities, together with authorities departments and media retailers, to assist the nation rebuild after al-Assad’s fall.

    Weeks earlier, the UK had dropped sanctions towards two dozen Syrian companies, largely banks and oil corporations.

    On Monday, United States President Donald Trump signed an executive order to dismantle an internet of sanctions towards Syria that had crippled the nation’s economic system beneath al-Assad.

    In an announcement posted on X, al-Shaibani – the Syrian overseas minister – welcomed Trump’s determination, saying it could “open the door of long-awaited reconstruction and growth”.

    “It’s going to elevate the impediment towards financial restoration and open the nation to the worldwide neighborhood,” he stated.

    Syria’s new leaders have been struggling to rebuild the nation’s decimated economic system and infrastructure after almost 14 years of civil battle that killed half 1,000,000 folks.
