    Australia says US missile purchase shows commitment to defence spending

    SYDNEY: Australia stated its A$2 billion (US$1.3 billion) buy of supersonic missiles from the US underscores its dedication to defence spending, although Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has resisted US calls to comply with a goal of three.5 per cent.

    Minister for Defence Business Pat Conroy on Thursday (Jul 3) confirmed the acquisition of AIM-120C-8 and AIM-120D-3 missiles, developed by American defence firm Raytheon Applied sciences.
