    Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly dies at 75

    Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly of Virginia has died, his workplace introduced Wednesday morning. He was 75 years previous.

    “It’s with immense unhappiness that we share that our devoted and loving father, husband, brother, buddy and public servant, Congressman Gerald E. Connolly, handed away peacefully at his house this morning surrounded by household,” an announcement from his household learn.

    Connolly had served in Congress since 2009. He was a champion for federal employees, pushing again in current months towards the Trump administration and Elon Musk’s overhaul of the federal government.

    “We have been lucky to share Gerry with Northern Virginia for practically 40 years as a result of that was his pleasure, his goal, and his ardour. His absence will go away a gap in our hearts, however we’re proud that his life’s work will endure for future generations,” his household stated.

    Simply final month, Connolly stated he was stepping down from the highest Democratic place on the influential Home Oversight Committee as a result of his most cancers had returned. Connolly had defeated New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for the committee chair in December.

    He had been recognized with most cancers of the esophagus in November.

    “Once I introduced my prognosis six months in the past, I promised transparency,” he stated in his assertion final month. “After grueling therapies, we have realized that the most cancers, whereas initially overwhelmed again, has now returned. I am going to do all the things potential to proceed to symbolize you and thanks on your grace.”
