    Delivery driver pleads guilty to stealing $2.5m from DoorDash | Business and Economy

    US federal prosecutors say defendant and co-conspirators obtained the corporate to pay for deliveries that by no means occurred.

    A former meals supply driver pleaded responsible to conspiring to steal greater than $2.5m from the meals supply service DoorDash.

    Sayee Chaitanya Reddy Devagiri pleaded responsible on Tuesday in a federal court docket in San Jose, California, to a single rely of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, the US Lawyer’s Workplace stated.

    Devagiri and his co-conspirators would get the corporate to pay for deliveries that by no means occurred, federal prosecutors stated.

    Devagiri, 30, of Newport Seaside, California, admitted to working with three others in 2020 and 2021 to defraud the San Francisco-based delivery company, federal prosecutors stated. The opposite three have been indicted by a federal grand jury in August.

    Prosecutors stated Devagiri used buyer accounts to put high-value orders after which used an worker’s credentials to achieve entry to DoorDash software program and manually reassign the orders to driver accounts that he and others managed. He then triggered the fraudulent driver accounts to report that the orders had been delivered once they had not and manipulated DoorDash’s laptop methods to pay the fraudulent driver accounts for the nonexistent deliveries, officers stated.

    Devagiri would then use DoorDash software program to vary the orders from “delivered” standing to “in course of” standing and manually reassign the orders to driver accounts he and others managed, starting the method once more, prosecutors stated.

    Devagiri is the third defendant to plead responsible to having a task on this conspiracy. Two co-defendants beforehand entered pleas to 1 rely of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, authorities stated.

    Manaswi Mandadapu pleaded responsible this month, and Tyler Thomas Bottenhorn pleaded responsible in November 2023. Bottenhorn was charged individually.

    Devagiri faces a most sentence of 20 years in jail and a nice of $250,000. He’s scheduled to return to court docket on September 16.
